Saturday 10pm. What a fantastic day. Vannessa and I did general duties this morning but I got out with the camera to take photos around the neighbourhood. See below. As you can see it is very green. The autumn colour here is mostly yellow, but there is plenty of green about. This block of flats was built for government officials in the past so it was a prestigious building.

This afternoon Tracey and I braved the Metro on our own to visit Red Square. It was amazing, not least because it was nearly empty except for the bridal couples. We saw the back of the Kremlin (to be explored in the future), Gum, the famous department store and St Basil’s church. St Basil’s is a collection of different chapels all built at different times. Inside is amazing, with lots of painted walls, and art work. Here are some photos of what we saw. Wall painting inside St Basil's
It was great to get out and about and see some new sights. We went into Gum, which is now a collection of expensive designer shops. It’s where Moscovites used to queue for anything in the past and was almost derelict in the past. We enjoyed a drink before setting off home.
Tomorrow the delights of the market.
Sunday afternoon.
Another interesting day. Met Cathy, Tracey, Joan, Cas and Vannessa and headed off to Izmylova market. Here are some photos, but you really have to go to really appreciate it. Lots of tiny wooden stall selling souvenirs, WW2 memorabilia, jewellery and hundreds and hundreds of fur hats. All the others got one. The sheep skin suited me the best and was much cheaper. I also treated myself to a beautiful carved bowl for my fruit. It will probably be my best souvenir of the trip so worth the money. I managed to knock him down from 2300 to 1800, so from about £46 to £36. Still a lot of money, but beautiful. I don’t like a lot of the Russian dolls, but the Christmas decorations are just appearing, so I’ll look for some in December. I’d rather go sight seeing. Waiting for the family to ring and looking forward to another week. Nadine is due back on Wednesday and we shall start to split the class then.
Turning colder. There is a nip in the air that catches the ears. Will be pleased with the hat and now need my gloves and scarf.
