On Sunday, after church and Peter's tutoring we set off to Baumanskaya. It is designed to honour all those who fought in the Great Patriotic War in both the military and home front.

Outside it was colder than we expected with fine snow falling in a chill wind. Still we set off. Our first landmark, the Epiphany Cathedral where the author Pushkin was baptised.
This area is associated with Peter the Great. He learnt to sail on the ponds in Lefortovsky park before building St Petersburg. This is his military hospital.
We found a couple of parks. This one has a grotto - rather snow covered at the moment.
And this is a war memotial in another.
By now we were frozen so cut our loses and headed for the nearest tram and the metro - the wrong way. Still we found a metro station and one we had not seen before so here are some more metro photos, Aviamotornaya
and Trubnaya
We plan to go back when the weather is warmer but it was enough for one day.
