Bumps, boots and ballet

Another bad start to the week with another fall and a bruise bigger than my hand. Lots of ice and arnica and it is getting better. It is changing colour daily, but already fading round the edges. Tamara from school took me to a shoe shop and I now have local footwear. I think it is better, but it is so cold the snow is now polished. the street cleaners have to break it up with poles, and I have not seen that happening so far. I have to say the lady who does outside our flats has done a great job.

On Thursday Nadine and I did a reccy for our Year group trip to the Tretyakov Gallery on Wednesday. It was very interesting, though how the children will cope with the old masters I'm not sure. However, they are looking forward to it. Afterwards Nadine took me to see an interesting bridge. Metal trees have been constructed, and romantic couples fasten padlocks to them as a sign of undying love.

Yesterday Tracey and I went to the New Tretyakov Gallery to see an exhibition about Diaghilev who designed for the ballet 100 years ago. He started his work in Russia but fled the revolution and worked for the Paris ballet. It was very interesting with the classic black and white photographs. There were some costumes which were amazing together with some modern reproductions. In the public areas musicians were performing which was a lovely backdrop. By then it was late afternoon so we headed home with a promise to return. Outside are some interesting scuptures. I could only take a few photographs as it was so cold. I also got a clearer one of Peter the Great, but again another trip in the summer.

Tracey then came back for supper and we spent a pleasant evening chatting, till she wrapped up warm to set off home.
Church this morning. Fr. Simon is having a break in the UK so Nicolette took Mattins with the pastor from the Protestant chaplaincy (an American evangelical organisation I think) preaching. I had a lovely chat with Cat (Catherine) who is a similar age to Jonathan and Philippa and works in one of the language schools. by the time we got away it was again turning cold so I headed for home. The forecast is for minus 20 all week. The sun shines but can be too cold to breathe. The sun is definately brighter so spring must be on the way. Mum tell me snowdrops are out in the UK. Only snow here!!
Till next week. Bye!!!!!!!!!
