January 2010

Welcome and Happy New Year to all those following this blog. Well I am back, arriving back at my flat just before 11 last night. I must remember to leave easy food and milk - fortunately I was able to get milk on the way in. I think I finally fell asleep around 2 (11 UK time) but was up by 9. On the plane I met Liz from the choir so I had company on the airport express which was lovely. I had a fantastic seat on the flight next to a window and with lots of leg room.

Today it has been a case of general duties. The market is open but only a few brave souls are outside, but the inside stall were there. In the meat hall I was being propositioned from all sides as there were few people shopping. Two pork chops and two pieces of beef for £4 which will do me six meals in total isn't bad. Then on to Billa and paying for the internet.

I have started my explorations again. There is another park not far from here across the railway line. I approached it from the wrong side of the road so didn't get far, but the railway bridge gave me a superb view of the sky and the setting sun. I should have taken my camera. I don't think I'll get far in the evenings yet, but sunset was 4.15 today and there was still colour in the sky at 5, though it was just about dark. By the end of the week another 15 minutes will have been added to the evening. I will soon be able to take a walk on my way home from school.

Don't complain about the footpaths in England at the moment. It is lethal here. Some paths have been scraped but there are still lumps of frozen snow. Many paths don't even have that and are just compacted snow. You just have to be careful. I thought about getting my walking pole out, but no one uses a stick unless they are elderly. The worst places are at the edge of a path. The snow gets pushed off the path into the road and left, so you have to wade through it to cross the road!!!

School tomorrow and a chance to see everyone again. I'll take some more photos when I can.
