Entertaining company

Well the weather has proved fickle this week. We have had snow, minus 12 temperatures and pouring rain. Why am I not surprised. It's almost like being in England.

The inspection went fine. The gentleman picked up on the good while giving us pointers to move forward - just as he should. I had a sticky moment when a new boy started to scream the place down. Anna took him to the office where he promptly went to sleep.

This weekend has turned out to be most convivial. Yesterday I woke to pouring rain - good, it took Friday's snow away. I had my first Saturday rehearsal at lunchtime and slogged down to church. Afterwards a group were going for a burger near Belarusskaya and I was invited along. It was most pleasant. Julian and I were the family members, with Jennifer single, but mature having worked in Moscow for 13 years. Then there were Sam, Claire and Jonathan who are all students and Chris who works for the Moscow Times.

Today I went for lunch at Julian's. He has a large appartment near church which he finds very empty. Though he as travelled for work for years, this is his first posting without his family. It was great. He cooked chicken, I took a pudding and Liz, Cat and Daniel mucked in setting tables and finding drinks. Afterwards we played a board game and just sat talking. I thought I had taken a few more photos, but here are a couple.

This is Julian cooking with Daniel in the background.

This is Cat who came for supper a few weeks ago.

I have a busy week ahead. Tomorrow I have my first Church council meeting. I hope it doesn't go on too long. Tuesday I have choir, with an extra ladies practice on Thursday at Julian's - he offered it as Church is not available.

So term is nearly over and I have survived my first Russian winter. Oh for some green. I hope it comes soon. There was some grass in the church garden and some bulbs seemed to be trying to come up so there is hope.

  1. Sounds as though you are really getting in to the community out there! Are you still planning to be out there for a further year? We are hoping to go on a Baltic cruise next May June time but most only seem to go to St Petersburg! Hope you have a good Easter at home.
