Buried cars and a Friday social

Since I last wrote we have had a day off for Defenders of the Motherland day or unofficially Men's Day. It was bitterly cold, but Peter and I decided to go into the city and went to the Museum of Contemporary History. Basically the history of Russia from the 19th century to present day. A bit heavy going, but each room had a good description of the contents and context and there were lots of artifacts and pictures, together with the odd film, so very interesting. Sadly no photos were allowed so no record of your day out.

Last Sunday I did go and find the residency to see where it was. As I am going in the evening I took this photo while I was there.

While I was out and about I popped into Gum and found a display of artificial blossom and flowers!!

A trifle odd as it is still so cold outside.

We have not had snow for sometime now so underfoot is compacted black ice. So much grit has been throw down it is wearing the ice away in many places. but it can be very difficult to walk. Yesterday we went to the cinema to see The King's Speech and found the pavement on the Garden Ring awful. Near the appartment is this car!!

It will take sometime to dig out I think!!

What a super film. I wanted to see it in England, but it came out the day after I left. It arrived here on Thursday, and though dubbed in some theatres, it was in English with Russian subtitles. Worth all the slipping and sliding.

Friday saw a Scottish dancing, singing and pancake evening at church. I took Alla from school. Sadly no photos of the dancing as we danced every one!! But some photos of the singing.
Julian with his son and two of his three daughters

Alla trying to understand Skye Boat Song and Auld Land Syne

It was a first for the church but good fun and one to be repeated.

Assessment week at school so lots of paper work plus church council, choir and the reception!! Busy week.
