Friday, Saturday, Sunday

We have been very busy and then I couldn't get on the website last night. My apologies.

Every day has been full with lots of new experiences for Mum. Once again we started slowly on Friday as we had a late night ahead. Later in the morning we went tram riding west to where the Moscow River turns west and the canal for St Petersberg starts. There are large lakes with water sports.
The start of the canal

That evening we went to the ballet at the Stanislavsky Music Theatre to see La Esmerelda. Thought a sad story it was beautiful, with a big cast and well danced. Sadly it was a wet evening but we had a nice meal at Il Patio.

Mum standing in the same place as Philippa a year ago.

It was a long slog home for Mum and I should have booked a taxi, but she managed.

Saturday saw us bright and early to get to the Pushkin Fine Arts for the Dior exhibition. Oh it was beautiful.

Here is a link to the exhibition site. If it ever gets to London I can strongly recommend it.

We then walked across to Christ the Saviour cathedral. The original was pulled down in Soviet times but it was rebuilt in the nineties. It stands on a large site and Mum loved the space looking towards the river.

We then headed home for a quieter afternoon. I took Mum to look at the little wooden church and we had a meal at home. Natalia came so Mum also met her.

Sunday saw us up early and going to Church. Fr Simon greeted us and we sat near the choir. Though only a small congregation lots of people came to speak to her and she was presented with a travellers icon as a memory of her visit here. Lunch at the Belarussian restaurant. Delicious. Then a last look at Red Square and a browse through the market and time to head home.
Yes I was with her!!!

Mum manfully (womanfully) coping with the endless escalators on the metro.
